The fire is still burning near us here in S.C. Yesterday they released the name of the man that accidentally started the fire. It started as a brush fire that got out of control. The fire department responded and thought the fire was out but it started back several days later. Now the man is receiving death threats and is catching all the blame for the fire. Yes, he did start it – but he also called the fire department. Yes, he was burning without a permit, but again he called the fire department and transferred responsibility to them. This man should pay a fine, but his name shouldn’t have been shared.
This fire has destroyed or damaged almost 200 homes. It is sad, but the good news is that no one has been killed so far. Overall the emergency workers and local governments have responded well (with the exception of releasing the man’s name that started the fire).
